Our story

The American dream is always written with hard work, passion, trials and tribulations, a little bit of luck and a lot of tenacity. K2 Bros Brewing is no different. Brad and Kyle Kennedy both had successful careers outside of the craft beer world and were home brewers by choice. Over the years, the brothers worked on their craft and bonded over making quality beers that were anything but your typical macro brew styles. As time passed and the craft beer world evolved, the opportunity to turn a passion and a hobby in to a business presented itself and K2 Bros Brewing was born.

Over the course of several months a building that once housed an antique shop was transformed and in December of 2017 the doors of K2 Bros Brewing opened for the first time.

Word quickly spread about the quality and unique flavor combinations being created at K2 and business became progressively busier as time went on. It was becoming rapidly clear that this little family owned and operated craft brewery was poised for growth. As more staff was added and business grew, The Kennedy Brothers made the conscious decision to reinvest as much as possible into the business of K2 Bros Brewing. This strategy allowed the beer garden to evolve from a fun and cozy backyard setting to one of the premier outdoor venues in the Western New York Beer community.

K2 also made it a priority to focus on improving and expanding the brewing process by adding additional equipment such as larger fermentation tanks, a centrifuge, our own canning and bottling line and many other small items to solidify the high quality and consistency that allowed K2 to begin distribution to other bars, pubs and retail stores.

Everything was growing rapidly and suddenly, the whole world was rocked by the Covid 19 pandemic. Never one to panic or focus on the problems, K2 immediately pivoted and became an online beer shop in less than 24 hours. Over the course of the various stages of the pandemic there were several rules and regulations that were created. Thankfully, K2 successfully navigated those challenges and evolved our service model from truly pub style food and drinks to a hybrid model able to accommodate large parties, small groups, full restaurant style table service and more casual “self service” dining options.

K2 is very proud and fortunate to have grown during the pandemic and did not lay off a single employee. The pandemic created issues and obstacles that required out of the box thinking and agility to survive as a business. Little did we know that it was simply to prepare for the next evolution of the K2 story...

Growth, Expansion and complete world domination!! OK, just kidding, about that last part but lets talk about Freewill Elementary School… Even before the Covid 19 pandemic changed everything, K2 Bros Brewing was looking for options to expand our brewing facilities and possibly add another taproom. Discussions even went as far as touring multiple spaces in the Rochester, NY area. What became clear quickly was the sheer volume of properties available and that finding the right space was going to require a clear vision and a lot of creative thinking. K2 looked at industrial spaces, more traditional taproom spaces and even a golf course but nothing seemed to check all of the necessary boxes until we were introduced to a closed elementary school located a short drive from Rochester, NY. Nestled on 40+ acres of beautiful rolling hills, Freewill Elementary School offers 72,000 sq ft of exactly what K2 Bros Brewing was looking for… The ability to significantly expand brewing operations from a 7 barrel brewhouse to a 20 barrel brewhouse. The space to create a warm and welcoming taproom capable of hosting 300+ guests. Classrooms and outdoor space to host private parties and special events. The ability to create a destination venue for friends and families to gather, celebrate and enjoy.

K2 Bros Brewing has lofty and game changing ideas and plans for the future of both taproom locations, our brewing facility and the entire K2 brand. We are so fortunate to have received such wonderful love and support from the community and we look forward to bringing our vision and plan to the public. Cheers!
